Thanyapura Sports & Leisure Club (TSLC) will once again be opening its internationally renowned sports facilities to some of the world’s best tennis players, hosting one round of the prestigious Chang – SAT International Tennis Federation (ITF) Pro Circuit 2013.
The ITF round will consist of two consecutive women’s tournaments dated April 20 to April 27 and April 27 to May 4 which will mark the fourth occasion that Thanyapura has participated in hosting an ITF event.
Among the competitors representing Thailand are Luxsika Kumkhum, world-ranked at 127 and New Zealand-born Katherine Westbury ranked at 106, as well as Nudnida Luangnam ranked 200, Nicha Lertpitaksinchai ranked 330 and the Kingdom’s rising star, Pimpitcha Jattavapornvanit who at just 16 years old is ranked nationally at 25.
The list of first class international players participating in the first week’s tournament includes Olivia Rogowska (AUS), Tara Moore (GBR), Ksenia Lykina (RUS), Ling Zhang (HKG), Lisa Whybourn (GBR), Zuzana Zlochova (SVK), Misa Eguchi (JPN), Melanie Klaffrer (AUT), Akiko Omae (JPN), Risa Ozaki (JPN), Alexandra Artamonova (RUS), Miyabi Inove (JPN), Nicole Rottmann (AUT), Mai Minokoshi (JPN) and Naomi Broady (GBR).
The qualifying round of the first week’s tournament was held on Saturday, April 20 to Sunday, April 21 and the main draw started on Monday, April 22 and will continue till the final on Saturday, April 27. Each of the days’ events start from 10.00am with no admission to watch the games.
There will also be two special sessions of social men’s tennis on Thursday, April 25 and Thursday, May 2 from 6.00pm-9.00pm, as well as two tennis coaching sessions for kids aged eight to sixteen, led by Mr Roger Cochrane, Director of TSLC Tennis Academy and a coach from Peter Burwash International on Saturday, April 27 at 4.00pm-6.00pm and Sunday, April 28 at 10.00am-11.00am.
Thanyapura’s Tennis Academy boasts six state-of-the-art covered and floodlit Plexicushion tennis courts – the same surface used at the Australian Open – and stadium seating for a crowd of over 600 people just 15 minutes drive from Phuket International Airport.
The academy hosts regular regional and international tournaments and welcomes teams from around the world coming to train on these courts, as well as visiting regional tennis clubs seeking a weekend away. A retail facility offers a professional tennis racquet stringing service, and players also have access to one of the most advanced and high-tech fitness centres in Asia.
Competitors and spectators at the event will be offered accommodation at Thanyapura Sports Hotel, the first dedicated sports hotel in Asia, which provides guests the ultimate in comfort, recovery and wellbeing whilst they enjoy the use of the renowned facilities at TSLC.
