On September 8th 2012, Phuket provincial government head – Mrs.Anchalee Wanich Theppabuth, together with Mr.Rewat Areerob – Phuket MP Region 2, Miss Somjai Suwansuphana – Mayor of Phuket, Mr.Chetwit Tantipanwadee – Phuket Sports Association, Mr.Santi Pawai – Director of Phuket Tourism and Sports, and officials from relevant department opened a new 4,000 seat gymnastics stadium at Sapan-Hin, a large number Phuket’s students and residents turned out for the opening.
Phuket City Mayor “Previously, Phuket has only had a gymnastics stadium which had a maximum capacity of 500. The stadium was built in Sapan-Hin when Phuket hosted the 16th National Games in 1982. Up until now, it has been used as a sports and recreation facility for children and young people.
In 2012 the Ministry of Tourism and Sports received a 154 million budget to support its Strong Thailand 2012 strategy and this included building a 4,000-seat international standard gymnastics stadium. The building of the new stadium is aimed at bringing national and international sporting events to the province.”
