Phuket FC started their 2014 Thai Yamaha Division 1 campaign with an impressive and comfortable win over last season’s Thai Premier League relegation side Pattaya United at Sarakul Stadim last night, 23rd February 2014.
Straight from the kick-off Phuket took control of the game and were creating some good chances. They were trying to make some quick breaks up front but were getting ruled offside at each attempt, much to the annoyance of the 3,000 of so Phuket fans, who thought some of the decisions by the linesman, were a little dubious.
Late into the first half Phuket had their first real scoring opportunity after Eakartit Somjit was pulled down in the box and the ref pointed to the penalty spot. Brazilian striker Ney Fabiano stepped up to take but saw his shot hit the post.
The teams went in at half-time at 0 – 0.
Phuket came out in the second half still looking to take the lead, and it was around the 60th minute mark that Anusak Laosangthai whipped in a great cross from the right hand side of the pitch which Ney Fabiano managed to bundle over the line, sending the home fans into a frenzy.
The goal certainly woke up the visitors who then started creating chances of their own and which saw keeper Adisak Doungsri being tested for the first time in the game.
At the final whistle the single goal was enough to see Phuket take the victory and an important 3 points in which is probably their best opportunity yet of getting promotion to the Thai Premier League.
My man of the match was Phuket’s number 23, Brazilian midfielder Eber, who put in a strong and impressive performance from the off and certainly gave the Pattaya players some problems.
Phuket’s next game will see them take on Thai Premier League side Sisaket FC on in the 2014 Toyota League Cup on Saturday 1st March 2014 at Surakul Stadium, kick-off has yet to be announced.
