Following the unsurprising resignation of Phuket FC coach after Saturday’s draw against TTM Lopburi, it was more surprising that on Monday 5th August 21013 Phuket FC were ready to announce the appointment of Alessandro Stefano Cugurra Rodrigues as new head coach of the team. One can only wonder what was really going on behind the scenes at the club as Alessandro, more popularly known as ‘Teco’, was at Saturday’s game and ready to sign a contract on Monday.
Teco who was born on July 22, 1974 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil played as a defensive midfielder with Atlético Mineiro, A.S. Roma, Sampdoria, São Paulo Futebol Clube and the Brazilian national team. In 1998 he retired as a player after a short break from football returned to Brazil and begun his career as a manager. Prior to joining Phuket he was coach of Chiang Rai United, who he led to promotion to Thai Premier League in 2010 after joining them when they were in 7th place in Division 1. He resigned from his position as coach of Chiang Rai United in June of this year.
‘Teco’ has taken over the position of Phuket FC coach with 14 games remaining in the 2013 season and it is hoped that he will have the same impact on the Phuket team as he had in 2010 with Chiang Rai United.
Following the announcement, Phuket FC Chairman Pamuke released the following statement on the official Phuket FC Facebook page:
Dear Phuket FC Fanclub!
“The situation that I expected, it has now passed and left me with a variety of feelings. It was a completely new experience for me.
“I think that as of now, the worst things have been resolved.
“What I would like to ask of the the fans is that during the games, whether our players play good or bad we need to hear voices cheering to support them. Please don’t shout or use vulgar words, because they will lose concentration and lose control and the outside will see us as having no pride for Phuket FC.
“If every group of fans still love Phuket FC and want me to make the team, we don’t want to get discouraged and we need to have your faith.
“Can you show sincerity to us? We want to know you can! Just call up to cheer the team and all of players and staff, especially our new coach “Teco”, who needs support from you.
“Please don’t make me frustrated or leave me alone to do this!”
Pramuk Achariyachai, President of Phuket FC
