Niyom Tassaneetipagorn, Senior Assistant Vice President – Corporate Affairs of Laguna Resorts & Hotels PCL, said during a meeting presided over by Vice Governor Tri Akaradecha at Provincial Hall that the Laguna Phuket Triathlon has been held for 16 consecutive years already and the event can draw in more and more participators every year.
The Laguna Phuket Triathlon will be held in the same way as it was in the past, this year, on 28th November 2010.
To mark His Majesty the King’s 83rd birthday anniversary, Phuket Province together with Travel and Sports Association Phuket, The World Triathlon Corporation and Laguna Resorts and Hotels Plc, will also organize another event ‘Asia Pacific Ironman 70.3 Championships’ on the 5th December 2010. The event is going to be held for the first time outside of Hawaii, USA.
These two events are considered important events at the international level. The Triathlon consists of a 1.8 km swim, a 55 km bike and a 12 km run. Whereas, the Ironman 70.3 consists of a 1.9 km swim, a 90.1 km bike and 21.1 km run.
The Ironman 70.3 Asia Pacific Championship event will offer a US $60,000 professional prize purse as well as qualifying slots for age group winners and the top 10 professional athletes to the 2011 Foster Grant Ironman World Championship 70.3.
