The finals of Mom Tri’s Boathouse Soccer tournament, part of the annual staff sport day, were watched by an illustrious and unexpected Boathouse guest. Bryan Robson, best known for playing in midfield for Manchester United, where he was the longest serving captain in club history, and his wife Denise just happened to enjoy a leisurely lunch at the Boathouse.
Manager of the Thailand national soccer team since September 2009, Robson was quickly spotted by several avid soccer fans amongst the staff. He graciously accepted the invitation to present trophies to the winners of the hotly contested Boathouse soccer tournament.
‘Kitchen United’ comprising chefs and kitchen hands and ‘FC Bahn Chang’ consisting of team members usually occupying positions in the Boathouse accounting department and engineering, battled it out in a match on the sands of Kata Beach in front of the restaurant’s terrace. ‘Kitchen United’ claimed a well deserved victory with a 3-0 win.
But all sides considered themselves winners when Robson kindly signed the participants t-shirts and posed for photos with the team.
