Phuket ready for Beach Volleyball Thailand Open 2010 at Karon

On October 14th, Tri Akaradecha, the Governor of Phuket, presided over a meeting with the related sectors in order to follow up progress in organization of the Swatch FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour Phuket Thailand Open 2010 powered by PTT.

The main agenda in the meeting were the preparation of 13 playing and practice courts beside Karon Beach, the location of advertisements, volleyball clinics for 40 youth in Phuket, and security during the tournament.

Geoffrey Rowe, MD of Pentangle Promotions, the organisers, said that the tournament would be held on November 2nd-7th, beside Karon Beach. There would be over 100 women’s teams from about 30 countries attending the competition, which was more than the previous years. Moreover, some of those teams were the world champions, Olympic champions, and top three ranked in the world. Germany, Brazil, U.S.A, Italy, Russia, China, and Japan would each send more than 4 teams, while Thailand has 3 in the main draw and 3 in the qualifying round of this tournament.

Meanwhile, the Governor said that Phuket Province really supported this tournament providing playing courts, security, and accommodation. Every match would be broadcast live to over 30 countries around the world by NBT (formerly Channel 11) and T-Sport 9 G Channel from 3.00 – 5.00 p.m during the semi-finals and finals on November 6th & 7th. This was a good opportunity to promote Phuket to the eyes of people in the other parts of the world. Moreover, everybody was invited to watch every match without any entrance fee.
