On Tuesday 21st June 2011 Mom Tri’s Villa Royale was proud to present an event entitled “Beauty Spa Kitchen by Su-Mei Yu”.
Born in Bangkok to Chinese parents, Su-Mei moved to America aged 15, where she attended a mission boarding school in Kentucky. After graduating, Su-Mei moved to California where she gained a Masters Degree in Social Welfare. She later worked as an assistant professor at the Graduate School of Social Work at the San Diego State University.
At the free to attend “Beauty Spa Kitchen” event, Su Mei demonstrated how ingredients easily found in the kitchen and garden can prepare not only healthy snack recipes, but can also be used to make beauty and health treatments.
After presenting some pre-prepared snacks, which included fresh spring rolls with lettuce, cucumber, pickled daikon and carrots with mint – served with a honey, lime and chili sauce Su-Mei, with the assistance of some willing attendees, demonstrated how the peels and remnants of the snacks could be used to make some of her suggested treatments, one of which is described below:
Papaya, honey, daikon face scrub for removing lines and wrinkles
3 tablespoons of grated daikon
1/3 cup of drinking water
2 tablespoons mashed papaya
1 teaspoon of honey
Put the daikon and water in a blender and puree. Strain the liquid through a fine mesh strainer over a bowl. Discard the solids. Mix the liquid with papaya and honey. Mix well. Store in a container with a lid and refrigerate. It will keep for weeks.
Before showering, take a teaspoon of the face scrub and apply it to the face and neck. Leave it on for at least 10 minutes or for the scrub to harden. Rinse well.
(Please note, if you are going to try this daikon might sting a little when first applied to the face)
When Su-Mei is not traveling to give demonstrations, she extends her passion for food by writing cookbooks. She has written two successful Thai cookbooks and has a third on the way. She also demonstrates cooking on television in the USA and appears on San Diego National Public Radio as a guest commentator.
