Following last year MOU signing ceremony between Marriott Hotels and Resorts Thailand and Habitat for Humanity Thailand, more than 300 Renaissance Phuket Resort and Spa associates including other Marriott properties in Phuket were moving forward with project to provide simple and decent houses for the villagers in Ta Chat Chai village, northern part of Phuket island.
The volunteering day begin with 5 houses building for the 5 families in the morning with the opening ceremony where Jason Nuell, General Manager of Renaissance Phuket General Manager, Toni Pedori, General Manager of JW Phuket, Theera Karnjanasatit, General Manager of Courtyard Marriott Patong, Surin and Kamala unveiled the supportive and willingness of Marriott Associates to help building the houses to the representatives from Mai Khao Sub district Administration Organization and Habitat for Humanity Thailand as well as the 5 families who will live in the houses. The completed houses will be handed over to the house’s owner at the next stage while Marriott’s more than 3,000 local associates will have the opportunity to work on the housing construction project throughout the next few months.
“Serving the community through Habitat for Humanity housing builds has become a Marriott tradition. Through today’s build, our associates are able to gain first-hand experience so their own teams can replicate the effort in their communities.” said Jason Nuell, General Manager of Renaissance Phuket Resort and Spa.
Marriott and Habitat for Humanity International, a nonprofit organization whose goal is to eliminate poverty housing worldwide, developed a partnership in 1995 to help create more housing builds throughout Thailand and the world. Since then, Marriott has contributed volunteer labor and funds toward the completion of more than 50 homes in six countries.
