On Friday 22nd July 2011 Phuketindex.com were kindly invited to B-Lay Tong Resort Patong by Yuwandee Kwanyuen their sales & marketing Coordinator, as they were playing host to visiting members of the Porsche Club Malaysia.
We managed to catch up with Key Soon Yue President and founder of the club to get a bit of background information about the club itself and this event.
Key Soon Yue “I originally joined Porsche Club Hong Kong but noticed that there was not a club running in Malaysia. Therefore, in 1998 I took in upon myself to found Porsche Club Malaysia. We now have over 500 members and that number is growing every year. We are affiliated to Porsche AG Germany and are a local group of like minded individuals who share the passion for the Porsche marquee. We organises frequent drives and social events, sometimes as regularly as twice a month, for members to get together to enjoy their passion.”
“This specific event is called a mini-DOTY (Drive of the Year) and has been organised for new members and also for members who do not have time to go on our longer drives.”
“For this DOTY we have 25 cars that have joined us. We started out from Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday and took a night in Hat Yai, we then set off again to Koh Lak and then moved on here to Phuket. We usually like to cover more kilometres on our drives but as these are new members and they are not used to driving the long distances, we took some breaks before arriving here. Our long drives often take us to destinations such as Chiang Mai and sometimes even as far as China. We like the hospitality here in Phuket so we are going to spend a couple of nights here before heading back for our return journey.”
