Phuket’s illegal taxi’s discussed once again

At a meeting of the Public Transportation Committee on 27 August 2012, it was once again discussed about ways to organize the many illegal taxis operating on Phuket.

Mr.Theerayut Prasertpol – Director of Phuket Transport said that currently Phuket has about 3,590 illegal taxis. From late August into mid-September the Transportation Office will hold registration programs around the island giving the illegal operators the opportunity for them register themselves and their vehicles to make them legal. The registration programs will be held as below:

29th-31st at Muang Phuket.
Sep 3rd at Baan Cherng Talay.
Sep 4th at Wat Nai Yang.
September 5th at Mai Khao
September 6th at Kamala.
Sep 7th-10th at Kathu.

Mr.Chamroen Thippayapongthada – Vice Governor of Phuket, said “These programs are being held to organize the illegal taxis in Phuket. When the project is complete, we should see all of Phuket’s taxis operating on one system, offering the same standard of service and all with the same rates.”
