 Phuket to hold sea search and rescue exercise

On 4th July at the meeting room of Naval Command, Region 3. Mr.Tri Augkaradacha – Governor of Phuket along with Vice-admiral Taraton kajitsuwanm, Mr. Aroon Solos – Mayor of Rawai District, agents from the Narenthorn Center and various rescue foundations held a press conference to announce a sea search and rescue exercise which is to be held from 09.00 – 12.00 on 10th July of the coast of Cape Panwa.

The aim of the exercise is to show both the locals and tourists that Phuket is ready should there be any marine disaster or emergency that should require the involvement of Naval Command, Region 3.

Due to the fact Phuket is Thailand’s main tourist destination, it is important that tourists are confident when it comes to Phuket’s marine safety and that they know that the necessary departments can be deployed should the need arise.

Vice-admiral Taraton kajitsuwan said that three training scenarios would be practiced, patients being rescued from the sea and transported by helicopter to Racha Yai Island Medical emergency, a ship sinkingand a natural disaster such as tsunami or violent storm.

Mr.Tri said that by holding this exercise the public will increase their awareness and confidence in Phuket’s marine security.

Everybody is invited to come and watch the exercise should they wish to do so.
