Phuket’s Road Safety Board was put in place to reduce the number of accidents happening in Phuket. Over the past ten years, there has been an average of 180 people injured as a result of road accidents per year, with 47% being left disabled. Phuket’s accident casualties and injuries from traffic accidents cost the island more year upon year, 1355m baht in 2010 to 1492m baht in 2011.
After modifying some risk points and launching a drive safety campaign, Phuket is starting to see a reduction in the number of accidents. In an aim to reduce the number further, Phuket Road Safety Board are to modify more than 50 risk points, using a budget of about 84m baht. They will also continue to promote campaigns such as the 100% helmet campaign.
