The Phuket Vegetarian Festival is fast approaching, and all those involved are already preparing for this amazing annual event. Come the 15th October, the official start date of the festival, Phuket will be fully decorated with yellow flags, red lanterns and signs along the streets. The shrines which feature in the festival, and their surrounding areas, are all being prepared for the spectacle.
At Jui Tui Tao Bo Keng Shrine, the oldest and most famous shrines in the province, people are cleaning the place up and decorating both sides of the streets with Jay-flags, a sign indicating that the Vegetarian Festival is about to begin. Some restaurants are already starting to serve Jay (Vegetarian) food for the people.
One of the main traditions of the festival, which every year sees a growing amount of interest from both Thais and foreigners, is that participants wear white clothing, and white clothes are already being sold at many locations around the island, and will be available throughout the festival.
The festival runs from October 15th until the 23rd.
