Thailand’s internationally rated Phuket International Academy Mind Centre (PIAMC) for balance and well being is hosting an exclusive weekend meditation retreat in June with world-renowned teacher Dr. B. Alan Wallace.
Conducted in the PIAMC’s specifically designed meditation hall from June 18-20, Dr. Wallace will teach a sequence of meditations for the cultivation of the “Four Immeasurables,” namely loving-kindness, compassion, empathetic joy, and impartiality.
“The optimal situation to apply these teachings on cultivating a good heart is active life, socially engaged with other people at home and about town, moving away from habitual self-centeredness to greater empathy and loving concern for the welfare of all those around us,” Dr. Wallace said.
“This weekend retreat will consist of teachings, guided meditations, and discussions. Regardless of whether participants hold to any particular religious beliefs, these practices can be of benefit to everyone seeking to explore their own capacity to experience unconditional love and compassion.”
In 1975, Dr. Wallace was ordained as a Buddhist monk by the Dalai Lama and lived as a fully ordained monk for 12 years, intermittently serving as a translator to the Dalai Lama since 1979. He has studied Buddhism in Germany, Sri Lanka, India, Switzerland and the United States since 1970 and earned his doctorate in religious studies from Stanford University in 1995.
