On 9th Aug 2012 Wachira Phuket Hospital held an activity entitled “Noo Noy Nom Mae” (Healthy Child by Mom’s Milk). The event saw an unusual event, which we don’t think will ever make it to be an Olympic event, the 2 meter crawl, which saw 10 pairs of mothers and babies compete. There was also a child’s development consultant services, Thai traditional medicine service for mother’s after giving birth and a speech regarding the benefits of breastfeeding.
Director of Wachira Phuket Hospital Mr.Jetsada Jongpaiboonpatana the said “This event has been created to celebrate Her Majesty the Queen’s 80th birthday and Thailand Mother’s Day. It is also to encourage mothers to breast feed their baby only for the first 6 months, then breast feed and give them baby food until of 2 years old. Mom’s milk is the best food for children; it is nutrient-rich milk, helps the brain development and intelligence.”
Mr Jetsada also asked for cooperation from public places in providing a place where mothers can breast feed.
