Yesterday evening saw the closing ceremony of the 28th National Youth Games or Phuket Games 2012. The 11 day event saw more than 2,000 young athletes, coming from Thailand’s 77 provinces, compete in 40 different sporting events.
Unfortunately, the black skies covering Sarakul Stadium, the venue for the closing ceremony, deterred many from coming to view the spectacular & colourful 6 show ceremony, which also featured a mini concert from winner of this year’s popular TV singing contest The Star 8, Phuket’s very own Jaruwat “Dome” Cheawaram.
Luckily for those who did attend, the rain held off until the grand finale of the closing ceremony, an extravagant fireworks display.
The ceremony also saw Phuket Governor Tri Augkaradacha hand over the official games flag to Maha Sarakham Province, who will play host to next year’s 29th National Youth Games.
In the final standings in the league table, unsurprisingly Bangkok came top with a total of 102 Gold medals, Chiang Mai were second with 29 and Chonburi third with 28. Phuket finished in 7th position with 18 gold medals and 60 medals in total.
