Yesterday (18th July 2012) at the Phuket’s Cultural Office, Mr.Somkiet Sankhawsutthirak – Deputy Governor of Phuket held a meeting to announce the winners of the Phuket Best Citizens 2012 award, which works in line with the national “Thailand good place – good Citizens” (Muang Thai Muang Kon Dee) project. Mrs. Punyawe Thongsiriset from Phuket PR office and Mrs. U-rai Lersakanusorn Assistant of Phuket Culture Office were also involved in the selection.
The event was set up by the Department of Religious Affairs to find good people within communities around Thailand and to recruit and promote them by online publishing and broadcasting them on television. It is hoped that by promoting these people they will be a good example to others and help to motivate the Thai society.
This year there was originally four people selected for the 2012 Best Citizens of Phuket award. However, the selection panel decided on the three winners who were Mr.Theerawut Sriturarak, Mrs.Somjit Suthangkul and Provost Satthawaraphiyut-Abbot of Wat Naiyang.
