On October 4th 2013 at Jui Tui Tao Bo Keng Shrine, in Soi Putorn, Ranong Road, Mueang, Phuket, PPAO Advisor – Mr. Samanasak Ratanasaenyanuparp, together with PPAO Council Member Mr. Saroj Angkanapilas, joined the ceremony which saw the raising of the Go Teng marking the beginning of the 2013 Phuket Vegetarian Festival. The ceremony was chaired by former Director-General of the Department of Provincial Administration – Mr. Siva Saengmanee and attended by Phuket Governor – Mr. Maitri Inthusut, Phuket Vice Governor – Mrs. Sommai Prijasilpa, Chairman of Jui Tui Tao Bo Keng Shrine Council – Mr. Thirawut Sitularak, dignitaries, local people, along with a number of Thai and foreign tourists.
The ceremony to mark the beginning of the Vegetarian Festival comprises of raising the Go Teng pole, upon which nine lanterns are hung. All Phuket shrines perform this ceremony and welcome many devotees all dressed in white, who join in the ceremony and decorate the poles with gold foil before they are raised. The act is a merit-making ritual performed for the good fortunes of the devotees and their families.
