An enthusiastic team of 200 associates of Marriott Hotels Thailand’s six Phuket properties gathered together on a recent Saturday in September, to build brand new Habitat for Humanity homes in Thachatchai village on the island’s northern coast.
Making up the majority number of the volunteer house-builders on Saturday September 24, 2011 were over 100 staff from Courtyard by Marriott Thailand’s three Phuket properties – Courtyard by Marriott Phuket at Surin Beach, Courtyard by Marriott Phuket at Patong Beach and Courtyard by Marriott Phuket at Kamala Beach – and JW Marriott Phuket Resort & Spa, who combined built two of the five new houses which had taken shape by the end of the day.
Also joining in the effort were staff from Renaissance Phuket Resort & Spa and Marriott Vacation Club. Needless to say, the hard work by Marriott Hotels Thailand was very much appreciated by the Thachatchai community, whose village was among those affected in the December 26, 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami.
Marriott Hotels Thailand and Habitat for Humanity Thailand, a non-profit organization whose goal it is to eliminate poverty housing worldwide, developed a global partnership in 2010 to create more housing in the Thai kingdom. The co-operation is part of Marriott’s Spirit to Serve our Communities initiative, through which it seeks to give back to society and the communities that are home to its properties.
