An update on the illegal dog meat trade in Thailand

An update on the illegal dog meat trade in Thailand

Progress Is Being Made

Make YOUR Voice Heard!

Dear ,

I would like to update you on the actions being taken to introduce stronger animal cruelty laws in Thailand and towards ending the illegal dog meat trade.

Marcelo Cacciola of Soi Dog USA, Sawan Sangbunglung of the Thai SPCA and I recently met with the Speaker of the Thai Parliament and presented him with draft legislation for the introduction of stronger laws. This legislation will now be put forward to the Parliament for vote. While this is a step forward it is but the first of many. Continued lobbying and strong public support both in Thailand and internationally is required in order to ensure the enactment and enforcement of this legislation.

If you have not signed the petition supporting this legislation I would like to ask you to do so now and make your voice heard today in condemning this horrific practice.

I would also like to ask you to write or email the Thai and Vietnamese embassies or consulates in your country condemning the dog meat trade.

Information on how you can help including links to the petition and links to a list of international Thai and Vietnamese embassies and consulates can be found at: Make Your Voice Heard.

A rally was held on September 4 in Bangkok in support of the new legislation and for enforcing current laws for ending the dog meat trade. Over 1000 people turned up for the rally which was broadcast on both Thai and international media.
