The Phuket Navy League, Thailand Southern Seaboard Council, informed Phuketindex of the next three expected US Navy ships to visit Phuket, despite some reports that the US Navy might avoid sending them here, due to June’s local taxi/tuk tuk blockade at the Deep Sea Port about sailors being offered free passenger van rides.
The three ships coming here soon should bring about 1600 navy personnel to Phuket.
“USNS Richard E. Byrd (T-AKE 4) will be in Phuket from 29 October. Navy League president Jimmy Madigan is announcing the coming arrival of several ships to Phuket, starting with the USNS Richard E. Byrd on 29 October.
Additionally we are expecting to have a visit by the USS Peleliu (LHA 5) with a bunch of Marines 12-16 November followed by the USS Shoup (DDG 86) 17-20 November. (The dates for Peleliu and Shoup are tentative.)
Please watch for coming emails and check our web site for announcements about any related COMREL projects, Ship Welcome Parties and other interesting information as it becomes available.
