Phuket Senator said the FALSE prediction of a tsunami affected Phuket tourism


Tanyarat Atchariyachai, a Senator for Phuket and the President of House of Senator’s Tourism Committee, said that there was complaint by hotel entrepreneurs in Phuket whose main customers were Thai, that a false prediction about Phuket, Phang Nga, and Krabi being hit by a future tsunami caused a decreasing number of their guests reserving rooms in December 2010 – February 2011.

She said that Thailand’s tourism had been affected by an unstable political situation since 2007. The entrepreneurs hoped that they would get more income from tourism in this coming high season and Phuket tourism would be revived shortly, but they worried that the prediction of a tsunami would be make the tourism situation worse.
