On November 24th, Asst. Prof. Dr. Prawit Nilsuwannakul, the President of the 4th Provincial Inspection and Evaluation Committee, presided over a meeting to inspect special projects under ‘Thai Kem Kang’ project. There were other members of the committee and representatives from related sectors attending the event.
The main agenda of the meeting was to follow up and conclude the result of Andaman Provinces (Phuket, Phang Nga, and Krabi) Health Security project which was a part of the mission developing the provinces to be a center of tourism in Asia. Previously, 29 million baht of budget was aimed for Wachira Phuket Hospital to develop its capacity; and 18 million baht of budget to run a self sufficient economy project in order to enhance the community economic status and the farmer income guarantee project, and to develop ecological tourism in the provinces.
For the health project, the result was that public health system in the three provinces was developed to reach an international standard by watching for epidemics and emergency health problems as well as to promote trust among locals and tourists in food standards. Dr. Prawit said that Phuket was the only province in the Andaman region mostly facing epidemics and this directly affected its tourism. The committee had requested 29 million baht of budget to develop the heath service system in Phuket, however the island got only 26 million baht of budget approved.
This money would be used in communication and service development as well prevention and preparation for the possible emergency health problems. Moreover the related sectors would take part in inspecting the food standard in the province, especially Phuket original dishes like noodles, rice noodles with curry, & Dim Sum. The food entrepreneurs would be trained to provide the food appropriately and they would get certification once they’d passed the training.
