February 26th, 2010 – Poonsri Kuleemakin, an expert academic from Department of Trade Negotiation, presided over a seminar called “Trade Opportunities, Good, Service and Investment for SMEs Entrepreneurs and AEC: ASEAN Economic Community”.
Poonsri said that the members of AEC are Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore and Thailand. All the members had canceled over 8,000 products tax to be 0 percent, except products that are related or kept in a sensitive list. Thai products consist of coffee, potato, dried coconut, and cut wood. In 2015, there will be four more countries joining AEC including Cambodia, Laos, Burma, and Vietnam. Some products’ tax cancellation of those countries will reach 0 percent by 2018 due to the ASEAN Free Trade Agreement which will be changed to be ASEAN Trade in Goods Agreement in this year. This makes trading in this region more explicit.
Consequently, the Department of Trade Negotiation and Thailand Chamber of Commerce held seminars in all provinces to listen to the entrepreneurs’ opinions and suggestions which are useful in trade negotiating plans. The seminar also allows the Thai traders to defend Thailand’s interest in trading and investment. It further expands the opportunity to enhance capacity of business competition to members nationwide.
