Teerayuth Aiumtrakul, a Vice Governor of Phuket, said that the Department of Highways has been constructing the new bridge connecting Phuket and Phang Nga. The new road bridge is named Sarasin 2 Bridge and is being raised parallel to Thao Thepkrasattri Bridge but higher than the old Sarasin Bridge.
He added that the construction progress was 44% and it would be finished in June 2011. The old Sarasin Bridge would not be used any more for vehicles. It would be developed to be a pedestrian & raised viewpoint in the middle and a connecting way would be built to connect 2 bridges. The viewpoint was a combination between Sino-Portuguese architecture and southern Thai architecture called Pan Ya.
Sarasin 2 Bridge is costing 377.999 million baht in construction. It is being constructed by Italian Thai Development Public Company Limited. The bridge is 12.20 metres wide with 2 lanes, is 655 metres long and with the connecting road is 1.725 kilometres long measured from the beginning in Phuket to the ending in Phang Nga.
