Rawai Sea Gypsies held traditional events & ceremony

Rawai Sea Gypsies

Aroon Soros, the Mayor of Rawai Municipality, and the sea gypsies in Rawai held a House merit making ceremony which is an ancient tradition of the sea gypsies in Rawai. Apart from this there was a boat competition, diving competition, sea boxing game, and sea gypsy traditional performances.

In addition, the House merit making is held in the middle of 6th and 11th lunar months. It aims to exorcise people and get bad things away in the Rawai sea gypsies’ village. The sea gypsies in LeamKa released a boat which they believed could take bad luck away. The boat releasing ceremony was held on the waxing moon night. The sea gypsies put their nails, hair, and dolls that represent them into the boats and danced around the boat before releasing it to the sea.
