On April 27th, 2010, Wichai Praisa-ngob, the Governor of Phuket, presided over a seminar held by Patong Municipality together with the Environment and Energy Engineering Center of Kasetsart University, Plan Pro Co. Ltd, and Epsilon Co Ltd. The seminar was held to present some solutions for transportation between Kathu & Patong including a new toll way & tunnel and to hear local opinions about the ideas.
There were several local residents who agreed and disagreed to the ideas. The locals living in Ban Mon area (around Pisitkoranee Road) disagreed with the municipality if it constructs the tunnel to Patong because it would directly affect their way of life, while the rest of the villagers in other areas commented that it will help reduce accidents and traffic problems in Patong.
The tunnel would start from the 4029 main road at 0+850 milestone in Kathu, going under the forest of Nak Kerd Mountain for 1.165 kilometers, then going to a bridge crossing over Pisitkoranee Road at a length of 204 meters to connect to other roads in Patong. In addition, the government and related sectors will look for another tunnel ending area to avoid problems that might affect people in Ban Mon area.
