Mr.Paiboon Upatising has been reelected as President of Phuket Provincial Administration Organisation(PPAO).
On April 8th, Chief Administrative Officer of the PAO and Director of Election Committee, Mr.Manop Leelasuthanon, revealed there were several factors which caused only 28.80% of Phuket residents to vote. Firstly, due to their only being 2 candidates, the election was far from interesting. Moreover, because of the long weekend and holiday many residents had traveled back to their hometowns and also because the election was held on Saturday many people were still working.
Unofficial results were that with 41,541 votes, Mr.Paiboon Upatising was able to keep the position of PPAO president for another term, with Mr.Chayot Wisartpong receiving 11,952 votes. From 237,096 Phuket residents, only 68,273 people voted. There were 2,873 voided ballots and 11,907 ballots didn’t vote for either Mr.Paiboon Upatising or Mr.Chayot Wisartpong.
After speaking with media, Mr.Paiboon Upatising said he will focus on creating more recreational and sport facilities on the island. “Pink bus” public transportation system will be developed. He would also like to increase the number of doctors and services at PPAO hospital and also to promote tourism in Phuket to new markets. More importantly, he would like to install CCTV camera around Phuket city, Wichit, Rassada district, Patong, and Tha Chat Chai checkpoint.
