Mr. Paiboon Upatising, the President of Phuket Provincial Administrative Organization (PPAO), talked about the progress of PPAO’s hospital project located in the building of old Payathai Hospital: he said that it was under the process of finding a contractor to administer the hospital. Right now, there were 2-3 candidates from private and government hospitals applying to administer the hospital. PPAO would finish selecting the administrative team by January 2011. After being inspected by the medical specialist, it was estimated that the hospital could be opened by May 2011.
At first the hospital would provide 120 bed capacity general medical services plus the Andaman provinces’ main kidney clinic and elderly clinic. All services would be the same as a private hospital; hence the service fee would be a little bit higher than a government hospital. After seeing the feedback, the hospital would expand for 190 bed capacity medical services.
In addition, PPAO had spent 327 million baht of budget to buy the old Payathai Hospital’s building and renovated it to be PPAO’s hospital. The hospital covers an area of 14-2-52 Rai. It was a 10 storey building with 5 storey staff dormitory. 333 million baht of budget was used in the building’s renovation and medical system establishment.
