Paiboon Upatising, the President of Phuket Provincial Administrative Organization (PPAO), said that the new PPAO Hospital, east of Phuket City, was now under the process of recruiting an administrative team. There were 2-3 private companies presented to administer the hospital. PPAO would announce the one chosen to run the hospital in January 2011 after a medical specialist had inspected medical equipment, operation rooms, and other equipment in the hospital already, with a plan to open by May 2011.
“At first, the hospital will provide 120 beds and medical services. Apart from the general medical care, there would be a kidney center and elder care center. The medical charges would be lower than other private hospitals; however, it would be slightly higher than public hospitals.” Paiboon said that the hospital would be expanded later to 190 beds. However, PPAO had to consider the feedback during the early period.
