On January 24th 2011 at 1.30 p.m. Mr.Paiboon Upatising, the President of Phuket Provincial Administrative Organization (PPAO) participated in a meeting of Phuket Tourism Promotion Committee. The meeting was presided over by Mr.Niwit Aroonrat, a Vice Governor of Phuket. There were the representatives from related government organizations attended the meeting as well.
In the meeting, the committee was informed the amount of budget that many organizations in Phuket got to used in the island’s tourism promotion: Phuket Tourism and Sport Promotion Office received 324,000 baht from Office of the Permanent Secretary, Tourism and Sports, Phuket province got 550,000 baht of budget that will be used to enhance the capacity of tourism personnel in Phuket to reach the national standard, 31,300,000 of the budget for Andaman Province Provinces Developing Strategy will be used in events promoting tourism in Andaman provinces such as Andaman Explorer Project or the Andaman Travel Trade, as well as develop the capability of tourism personnel in the area. Mr.Paiboon said that PPAO also supported budget used to promote the island’s tourism. He mentioned that there were a lot more tourists from Russia and China travelling to Phuket.
Therefore, it was necessary to trained tourism personnel like tour guides or hotel staff in Phuket to be able to welcome and serve these tourists. Mr.Niwit also agreed with this comment. Meanwhile Mrs.Bangornrat Shinaprayoon, the Director of Tourism Authority of Thailand Phuket’s Office said that there will be many event to promote Phuket to the world such as Press Tour, inviting the domestic and international press coming inspect tourist spots in Andaman provinces, The Andaman Travel Trade, inviting the tour agents and entrepreneurs to inspect tourists attractions in this region. Moreover, there will be a project to train tourism personnel in Russian and Chinese to enable them to welcome tourists from Russia and China. Since there are not many Russian guides in Phuket, a call center will be established to help Russian tourists while they are travelling in Phuket
