On 1 November 2010, Pisak Chonlayuthm, the Director of Regional Waterworks Office, Phuket branch, expressed confidence to local journalists that there would be enough water supplied in Phuket during the coming high season.
He said that the increasing number of people now living in Phuket made the Waterworks Office prepare more water supply. The island usually lacked enough fresh water, especially in the dry season. The Waterworks Office had cooperated with Phuket City Municipality and Phuket Irrigation Office to solve water shortage problems in Phuket Town and suburban areas. Apart from the existing dams, Bang Wad and Bang Jo, there was another now under construction at Kon Kata Dam in Chalong, which would save water to be used in the dry season, once it was finished. Now the construction has reached 5% and it should be finished in 2012.
