Korn Jatikawanich, the Finance Minister, said that the government would support a long-term tourism strategy in order to promote the industry as another way to drive the country forward. The strategy would help the entrepreneurs who were affected by the political crisis.
He suggested ways to develop the tourism industry as follows;
- Sell ‘Phuket, Phang Nga, and Krabi’ brand separately from the Thailand brand. Since Thailand had a lower rate of tourists coming to travel in the country (during the past few months), this would make tourists come to the 3 provinces more often and all year round.
- Take more care of senior citizens or retired foreign tourists and residents coming to spend longer times in Thailand.
- Promote medical tourism
To perform the strategies mentioned above, however, something had to be more flexible including giving long-term visas for senior foreigners instead of annual visas and giving an opportunity for foreign doctors to work here caring for foreigners in the country.
