Phuket Land Transport Official, Mr.Teerayut Prasertpol, announced about the opening of the new bus terminal in Rasada district. The Office is now working on the process of cleaning and renovating so that it will be ready to serve. In addition, the company has also conferred with other bus entrepreneurs in order to be able to serve as early as possible.
The new bus terminal is expected to be opened no later than the end of this April. The processes of staff hire, store auction, and terminal renovation can take at least a month. The restructuring of the central reservation for cars going in and out the terminal is almost finished. This restructuring is to reduced traffic.
There will be 2 categories of the buses. First is those that travel through the route of Phuket and Bangkok and another is those that travel through the routes of Phuket and other provinces. Later on, there will be more buses that run around Phuket from the first to the second bus terminal so that there will be another alternative for people to travel into town.
Mr.Teerayut Prasertpol also said that Phuket Land Transport Office will be in charge of the new bus terminal until Rasada District Municipality is ready.
The new bus terminal is located in Rasada district, Muang, Phuket. The Department of Land Transport has budgeted 79 million Baht for buying 9 Rai of land and 48 million Baht for the construction to solve the problem of crowded bus terminal. The construction is finished for 2 years but Rasada District Municipality was not ready to take charge due to the lack of budget. Moreover, the locals opposed the opening of the new bus terminal due to the fact that it might cause severe traffic.
