Phuket to get the new Sarasin Bridge

23 September 2009 – Department of Highway got 377 millions baht budget for Sarasin Bridge 2 construction. When finished the new bridge will replace the existing 52-years-old Sarasin Bridge which become obsolete and is not high enough for big ships to pass below.

The bridge 650 with metres length and 12 metres width to have the height as same level as the Thepkrasattri Bridge which is being used for incoming traffic. Sarasin Bridge 2 will provide two lanes for outgoing traffic. A construction contract has been already signed on June 30 this year calling ITALIAN-THAI Development PCL to complete the construction within 720 days or in about 2 years.

They also have a plan to higher the old Sarasin Bridge and develop it to be another viewpoint and tourist attraction of Phuket.

Deputy Director for Operations of Phuket Highway District, Mr Sataporn Sornchana said the old Sarasin Bridge will be kept and developed to be another viewpoint and tourist attraction.
