On December 16th, at meeting room 1 in Phuket Public Health Office, Niwit Aroonrat, a Vice Governor of Phuket, presided over the 3rd meeting in 2010 of the Phuket Alcohol and Tobacco Control Committee and Sub-Committee.
In the meeting, the committee was informed of the ministerial regulation in 2010 about the principle and conditions of alcohol advertising, the announcement of the Alcohol Control Committee (ACC) in 2010 about the format and the way to advertise with a warning symbol or the symbol/logo of the alcohol drinking manufacturers, the order from ACC about comparison assignments following the 2008 Alcohol Drinking Control Act, and ACC’s regulations about comparison criteria following the Act.
Moreover, the meeting discussed about tobacco and alcohol advertising in the government parks (like Saphan Hin park). Local administrative organizations were assigned to survey, zone, and set times for smoking- & alcohol-free zones in government parks. However, alcohol could be sold in the area of beaches.
For the smoking-free government offices campaign, it was not continuously run and did not cover all government offices in Phuket. Even though there were no-smoking signs in those places, people smoking could be found there.
