Phuket prepares for future power outage

Phuket prepares for future power outageOn 23th May 2013 at Phuket Provincial Hall, Phuket Governor – Maitree Intusut said “On Tuesday evening Thailand experienced its biggest ever power outage blackening out 14 southern provinces including Phuket for several hours. The outage occurred about 7pm, and the lights reportedly started coming back on again in certain areas at 8pm. But most of the tourist areas of Phuket were reportedly still in complete darkness two hours after the blackout began.”

He added “The blackout had no real impact on the large hotels & resorts, airport and hospitals, because all they all have their own emergency generators; however, it may have had a slight impact on small hotels, shops or vehicles that needed to be on the streets. However, the incident which occurred is considered a risk when it lasts for several hours. Phuket Disaster, Prevention and Mitigation Office must therefore quickly put in a plan so that all relevant government sectors can be prepared to cope with any event that may occur in the future.”
