Phuket Police urge motor bikers and riders to wear helmets

On May 18th 2010, Pol. Maj. Gen. Pikad Tantipong, the commander of Phuket Provincial Police, presided over a meeting of motorbike taxi drivers held at the conference room of Phuket Wittayalai School. The meeting was held to encourage the motorbike taxi drivers to ask their passengers to wear helmets. There were 625 drivers  presented at the meeting.

Pol. Col. Wanchai Akeporapit, the superintendent of Phuket City Police Station, said that it was important to make people realize how much safer it is wearing helmets and to follow the traffic laws.

Both the police and related officers have to cooperate on this, since it can reduce accidents and make a better image for Phuket. He stressed that from July 2010, all motorbike drivers and passengers must wear helmets 100% of the time.
