Phuket police arrest motorcycle drivers and passengers without helmets

On July 1st 2010, at Phuket Provincial Police Station, Niwit Aroonrat, a Vice Governor of Phuket, presided over the parade of 2,000 motorcycles or 4,000 motorbike drivers and passengers that rode around Phuket City municipal areas to encourage people to wear helmets. Most of the motorbike riders joining the event were students, motorbike taxi drivers, government staff and Phuket residents.

Pol. Col. Wanchai Akeporapit, Superintendent of Phuket Provincial Police Station, said that this parade was the last campaign to let people know that they must wear helmets whether they are the drivers or passengers. From July 1st 2010 on, the police would strictly watch and arrest people who ride without helmets.
