On March 14 2014, a new school building at Or Bor Jor Sathit Ruam Pathana School in Amphoe Mueang was opened by PPAO Chief Executive – Paiboon Upattising. Joining Khun Paiboon were his Advisor – Boonserm Suwannarathaphoom, Deputy Chief Executive – Chawalit Na Nakorn, Council Members – Prasit Sinsawa park and Boon-um Uerchittrakul, Division heads and officials, administrators from PPAO-managed schools, Basic Education Committee, teachers, educators, parents, and students.
Mr Boonserm told the attending crowd that Or Bor Jor Sathit Ruam Pathana was formerly founded by the Hilfswerk Foundation of Austria. Subsequently it was taken over by PPAO who turned it into Young Children’s Development Center (Kindergarten 1 and 2) in 2008. Education at the school is based on the model of the “Project Approach” which boosts the thinking skills of young children. PPAO plans to use Sathit (which means “demonstration”) School as a model for education for young children in Phuket.
Over the years, the school has gained popularity and student intake has grown. To accommodate this and to provide accommodation for teachers from other provinces, PPAO provided a fund of 16,310,000 baht towards construction of a four-storey multi-purpose building, which houses eight classrooms, one office, two teachers’ areas, one multi-purpose room and nine living quarters for teachers.
Mr Paiboon highlighted the importance of equality in education. The local government, he said, works hard to provide education for all. As a result, the province of Phuket has received awards and commendations from the Ministry of Education for its work in this field. He continued to urge everyone to work even harder to raise the standard of education in Thailand to improve its ranking which is now trailing behind other ASEAN nations.
“This multi-purpose building is the first of many to come so that we can expand education to reach all children in all areas. Thank you all for your hard work and support,” he concluded.
