There have been rumours that the family of Anchalee Wanich Thepabutr, the Secretary to the Prime Minister of Thailand, was behind the increasing price and the shortage of palm oil. Tossaporn Thepabutr, the Representative of Phuket, stressed the Wanich family had nothing to do with this case.
He said “The problem is the shortage of palm affected by drought last year. The quality of harvested palm is very low. Actually, the government should plan for this problem. It is the same way to solve sugar shortage. To import palm oil from other countries, the proper number is 30,000 – 50,000 tons. Moreover, the related sectors have to plan for the new cycle of palm oil production and keep watching the climate, as to whether it will affect palm farming.”
