Phuket Land Transport Office specialist – Jaturong Keawkasi announced at a recent meeting, held with relevant government offices, that due to increased costs and living costs which are continuing to soar, there will be an increase in taxi meter fares in Phuket. The current fares were set 10 years ago in 2003 when gasoline would have been 18 Baht per litre, now at 40 Baht. In addition they have also taken into account the adjustment in the minimum daily wage to 300 Baht per day.
New taxi meter fares will be 50 Baht for the first 2km, 12 Baht per km2-15 for 2 – 15km, and 10 Baht per km from and above 15 km. After the increases take place taxi meter fares from Phuket International Airport Phuket City will be 470 Baht an increase from the original rate of approximately 34%.
