Anchalee Wanich Thephabutr, the Secretary to the Prime Minister of Thailand, said the government had approved 2,600 million baht of budget for the construction of Phuket International Conference Center. The conference center will be constructed on the 150 Rai of state property in the Mai Khao Sub-district. The center’s theme is a world class destination and the designing process will be finished by this year. It is estimated that the construction will take about 3 years.
Moreover, the government also agreed to spend 5,700 million baht on developing Phuket International Airport to be able to welcome 12 million tourists from all over the world each year. This amount of budget will be used to improve transportation and public utilities as well.
Anchalee said “In 2010, there were 15.5 tourists coming to spend their vacation in Thailand, one third of them chose to come to the Andaman region. So this region is like the drawing room of Thailand which generates a lot of income to the country.”
