On March 31st 2013 at PPAO Community Hall, Vice Governor of Phuket – Mr.Somkiet Sungkhoasutthirak presided over of the Memorial Day ceremony of Chetsada Bodin Phra Nang Klao Chao Yu Hua or Rama III. Also in attendance were Deputy Chief Administration Officer – Mr.Watcharin Patomwattanapong, PPAO staff and a number of other government sector officials.
The Memorial Day ceremony is held to honor and pay respect to Rama III, who during the reign of Nangklao observed a series of massive wars in Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam. Nangklao was known for his affection of Chinese culture. And as a young prince, he was known as a great businessman who conducted profitable trades with China and enriched the royal treasury. Nangklao was famous for his Buddhist faith. After becoming Prince, he fed the poor each day, and released animals every monastery day. More than 50 temples were built and repaired in his reign, including the first Chinese style temple at Rajaorasa, the highest stupa at Wat Arun, the Golden Mountain at Wat Sraket, the metal temple at Wat Ratchanadda, and Chetupol Temple or Wat Pho, the site of the first university in Thailand.
