Phuket’s Kata Thani Phuket Beach Resort was recently the venue for a climate change seminar presided over by Dr. Sutthipan Jitpimolmas – Director of The Thailand Reserch Fund, and entitled “The Third China – Thailand Joint Seminar on Climate Change”. The seminar was organised with cooperation from the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) and Phuket Marine Biological Center.
Dr Sutthipan said “The purpose of this meeting is for Thailand and China to exchange knowledge and research on climate change, and to raise points of academic interests, opinions and expertise on research issues that are of mutual interest to both countries. The meeting includes special lectures on topics related to climate change with presentations from Thai and Chinese research academics which we believe helps to solve some of the problems of global warming, something which requires international cooperation.”
He added “Thailand can learn a lot from the Chinese because our weather patterns are quite similar. They also appreciate our cooperation as they are able to understand more about and find ways of coping better with the monsoon winds that occur across the Asian region.”
