On March 26th 2011 at Japan Tsunami Donation Center in Phuket Provincial Hall, Mr.Tri Akaradecha, the Governor of Phuket, Mrs.Nalinee Akaradecha, the President of Phuket Red Cross, Mr.Somkiat Sangkhaosutthirak and Mr.Niwit Aroonrat, the Vice Governors of Phuket, together received money donated by the Kusondharma Foundation Phuket, Phuket Police, Phuket residents, local and private organisations to help tsunami victims in Japan.
The governor said “Today (on March 26th), there has been 1.6 million baht donated to the account of Krung Thai Bank. There are many organisations donating money directly to the provincial office. The last balance of donation is 2.2 million baht. The money will be divided into 2 parts. The first, which is about 1 million baht, will be transferred to the Ministry of Interiors and the Minister of Foreign Affairs before being passed to the government of Japan. The second part of the money will be given directly to the Prime Minister of Thailand before being handed over to the government of Japan as well.
The donation center is still open for donations. In addition, there will be an event to generate more money on April 9th-10th in the area of Thalang Road. There will be singers from Grammy singing throughout the event to help generate money. It is estimated donations will reach 7 million baht on that day.”
