On April 27th 2011 at the meeting room the Phuket Provincial Hall, Mr.Tri Akaradecha, the Governor of Phuket, presided over the meeting of the committee to solve the covert resident problem in Phuket. They were many related sectors in attendance at the meeting.
The governor said the growing economy of Phuket has made over 800,000 – 1,000,000 people from different parts of Thailand come to the island. Meanwhile, there are 347,664 residents registered in the citizen database. With this number of the registered citizens, Phuket is facing the obstacle of getting the budget from the government to develop the island.
Consequently, the island has to encourage people to register themselves as citizens living on the island in order to get enough budget. In last few years, there were 20,000-30,000 more people attending the citizen registration. However, there are many of the covert residents that could not register since they don’t have the census to put their names in. In this year, Phuket government plan to get 100,000 registered. The main target will be students, employees in tourism sectors and local administrative organizations.
