On March 22nd 2011, Mr.Somkiat Sangkhaosutthirak, a Vice Governor of Phuket, presided over a meeting of the committee of the Phuket Consumer Protection Board. The main agenda of the meeting was to follow up on the progress of solving the problems based on resident complaints during October 2010 – February 2011. There were 25 complaints, 15 of them were resolved. 291,950 baht of compensation has been given to consumers affected by those cases. There are 10 cases ongoing in the investigating process.
Most of the cases were regarding unfair land allocation. The board of committee also followed up about complaints from people living in Muen Khao Sea View, a housing project of Phuket Boom Property Co.Ltd. The residents there would like the committee to investigate that the project owner built an unauthorised and unstable wall, without the permission of the residents, which then collapsed on their houses.
Another interesting case was a complaint from Baan Rim Khao, a housing project on Bypass Road that was affected by a new housing project of Baan Rock Garden Co.Ltd. The construction of the Rock Garden project caused a land slide on to the main road of Baan Rim Khao. Moreover, the mud from the construction also filled the project’s drainage. There are many ongoing complaint cases. However, the board of committees is trying to help all affected people.
