On July 12th 2010, Wichai Praisangob, Governor of Phuket, presided over a meeting to set up the detail for discussions about cooperation in tourism and investment between Phuket and Nice in France, one of Phuket’s ‘sister cities’. Those present at the meeting were representatives from related government organizations, Phuket Tourism Association, and local administrative organizations.
Wichai said that 35 representatives of Phuket would visit Nice as invited during July 16th – 23rd 2010 to strengthen relationships between the two cities. Phuket and Nice had begun their good relationship since 1989 (over 20 years ago). Two years ago, a group of representatives from Phuket visited the city as well.
In addition, the representative of the two cities planned to discuss about special cooperation in tourism and investment in the two cities. Especially, Phuket plans to invite French investors to come invest in tourism business, restaurants, marinas, and real estate in Phuket. There also would be an exchange in culture and education between the two cities because there were a lot of French people visiting Phuket every year. Wichai added that a trip to Nice would be useful since the government officers joining the trip could learn more about tourism management of the city before adjusting it to use in Phuket.
